EXTRACTION 3

Extraction 3, the highly anticipated third installment of Netflix’s adrenaline-fueled franchise, is confirmed to be in active development. The project was officially announced during Netflix’s Tudum event in June 2023, immediately following the success of Extraction 2 . Despite the confirmation, both release date and production timeline remain uncertain as of mid‑2025. Chris Hemsworth, portraying Tyler Rake, affirmed in an August 2025 interview that while the film is being seriously crafted, “the intention is to certainly make another one,” though he could not yet specify when it would hit screens .

The creative team behind the series remains remarkably consistent. Sam Hargrave continues in his directorial role, having steered the acclaimed action sequences of the first two films . Meanwhile, Joe and Anthony Russo—writers and producers of the franchise—are again involved. Joe Russo has confirmed he is writing the screenplay and mentioned that they are “in the middle of working on that story right now,” with production hoped to begin in 2025. Hemsworth echoed this, saying that they’re “in the middle of putting it together now, and writing it, and just trying to crack the story” .

Extraction 2 - Official Trailer (Netflix)

Returning cast is expected to include Chris Hemsworth as Tyler Rake, with likely returns from Golshifteh Farahani as Nik Khan and Idris Elba as the enigmatic Alcott. At the end of Extraction 2, Alcott offers Rake and Nik a mission in exchange for their freedom from prison, setting the stage for the third installment’s plot . The story is expected to further explore Alcott’s mysterious employer and deepen the dynamic between Rake and his allies, possibly even touching on Rake’s past and emotional struggles .

Technically and stylistically, Extraction has become synonymous with breathtaking one-shot action sequences. The sequel raised the bar with a 21-minute continuous take, and expectations are high that the third film will push boundaries even further.

Extraction 3: Confirmation & Everything We Know

Given the roughly three‑year gap between the first film (April 2020) and the second (June 2023), and the projected production start in 2025, many anticipate a 2026 release for Extraction 3. That said, some estimates based on new production timelines even suggest a possible 2027 release if delays occur .

In parallel, Netflix is expanding the franchise’s universe. An Extraction TV series has been greenlit, starring Omar Sy, set in a different locale and featuring a fresh storyline, separate from Tyler Rake’s journey . This spin-off underscores Netflix’s commitment to growing Extraction beyond its central character while Tyler Rake’s saga continues to unfold on the big screen.
