In the 2020 action‑thriller Rogue, Megan Fox stars as Samantha “Sam” O’Hara, a seasoned mercenary leading a diverse team across the grasslands of East Africa on a high‑stakes rescue mission. Their target: Asilia Wilson, the teenage daughter of a governor, who has been kidnapped by Zalaam, the ruthless leader of a terrorist cell with ties to al‑Shabaab. Sam defies protocol by attempting to save not only Asilia but also two of her schoolmates, Chloe and Tessa, showcasing both her compassion and the moral complexity behind her leadership.
The mission initially succeeds, but disaster strikes when their extraction helicopter is shot down by an RPG. Thrown into chaos, the team engages in a fierce firefight atop a cliff to defend themselves from Zalaam’s militia. Several mercenaries perish, and the survivors are forced to leap into a river below, losing their communication equipment in the process. Chloe is tragically killed by a crocodile as they regroup on the shore, serving as a stark reminder of the lethal threats lurking in the wilderness.

Their only refuge becomes an abandoned game farm once operated by poachers trafficking exotic animals and body parts. Soon, the group finds themselves stalked by a lioness that has escaped her cage and slaughtered the previous occupants. Elijah is the first to be mauled, and Bo is gravely injured. Sam and Joey manage to restart the generator and call for extraction, but Mike Barasa is also killed during the attack. As night envelops them, the team is instructed to wait until dawn for rescue—but the relentless lioness and the pursuing militants ensure that safety remains elusive.
Amid the escalating danger, Pata—a Maasai and former jihadist turned team member—reveals his tragic past: how leaving the militant group led to the slaughter of his family. His confession adds emotional depth to the narrative, highlighting the personal toll of conflict and radicalization. As the violence intensifies, Sam and Pata mount a counterattack; Asilia musters courage to fight alongside them, even killing one of the captors. Pata seeks revenge on Masakh, the man who executed his family, and with Sam’s support, succeeds. Tragically, Pata succumbs to his injuries and is killed by the militants, and Bo dies from his wounds as the lioness returns to unleash carnage on the enemy.

In a tense final act, Zalaam captures Tessa and Sam negotiates Tessa’s release by luring Zalaam into a barn harboring the lioness. Meanwhile, Joey discovers lion cubs in another building. The lioness dispatches Zalaam, then turns to Sam. Instead of attacking, she spares Sam—perhaps compelled by the cubs’ sounds. At dawn, Sam, Joey, Asilia, and Tessa walk toward the arriving rescue helicopter as the lions fade into the wilderness. The film closes with a title card condemning real‑world lion farms, underscoring the fictional story with a conservation message.
Rogue merges intense survival drama with tactical action, juxtaposing human conflict with the power of untamed nature. Set against a backdrop of terrorism, poaching, and personal redemption, the film explores themes of vengeance, sacrifice, and humanity’s fragile relationship with wildlife. While the plot delivers non‑stop thrills and emotional undercurrents, many critics have pointed out the uneven CGI effects—especially the lion—leading to mixed reviews. Nonetheless, the film’s ambition to blend gritty action with a conservationist ethos makes it a distinctive entry in the genre.
