The Longest Yard 2 (2025) is the highly anticipated sequel to the 2005 sports comedy hit, once again starring Adam Sandler as Paul Crewe. Directed by Peter Segal, who helmed the original, the film brings back the beloved underdog spirit, blending humor, heart, and high-stakes football action.

Set years after the events of the first film, Crewe, now retired, is drawn back into the world of football when a new scandal erupts at a maximum-security prison. The warden, portrayed by a yet-to-be-named villainous lead, offers inmates an explosive ultimatum: win the football game and earn early parole, or lose and suffer harsher sentences. Crewe is brought in to “advise,” but quickly realizes this is more than just a game—it’s a chance for redemption, justice, and perhaps, one final shot at greatness.
Joining Sandler is Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who plays Jack “The Rock” Carter, a former NFL star wrongfully imprisoned. Crewe and Carter form an uneasy alliance, blending Crewe’s cunning with Carter’s raw power and leadership. The film’s plot centers on the team’s struggle to unite a new generation of inmates, each with their own quirks and backstories. Training montages, comedic mishaps, and heartfelt moments abound as the team faces sabotage from the guards and the warden’s underhanded tactics. The climactic game is a brutal, high-stakes showdown, with Carter and Crewe leading a last-minute comeback. In a twist, Carter is offered a deal to throw the game but refuses, inspiring the team to victory. The film ends with the inmates winning, exposing the warden’s corruption, and Carter’s name cleared.

The film features a star-studded cast, including Michael B. Jordan as Marcus “Blitz” Benson, a star quarterback with a troubled past; Kevin Hart as Darnell “Tiny” Williams, the team’s comedic heart; and John Cena as Warden Decker, the film’s antagonist. NFL and sports cameos include Rob Gronkowski, Marshawn Lynch, and Peyton Manning.
With a budget of $70 million, The Longest Yard 2 promises to deliver laughs, action, and inspiration, building on the charm of the original while introducing new characters and challenges. The film is set for release on November 22, 2025, just in time for Thanksgiving, making it a perfect movie for families and sports fans.
